Otres: choose a specific beach stop
Otres is listed among the province’s beaches by the government source. Agree on a specific drop-off and pickup point, not just the beach name. Check water conditions locally; calm seas, empty sands and facilities are not guaranteed along every section.
Ochheuteal: a coastal stop
Ochheuteal is another beach-visit option. Keep sightseeing separate from ferry logistics: a beach name in a guide does not establish your departure pier. Save the location supplied with your ticket separately.

Build my tripSokha: check access and facilities
Sokha Beach appears in the government destination listing. Before planning a full day, check which section you can visit and whether hotel facilities require a booking or payment. This is not a promise of unrestricted resort access.
Phsar Leu: a city stop beyond the beach
Phsar Leu is a local-market stop beyond the shoreline. Make it a short visit without assuming a particular stall list or unverified opening hours. Ask before photographing people and keep personal belongings secure.
Independence Beach
Novotel confirms its location on Independence Beach. The beach offers another option when choosing a base or coastal stop. The hotel’s location does not mean every facility is available to day visitors; check access and usage policies separately.
Wat Leu: a hilltop temple
A local hospitality operator lists Wat Leu as a hilltop pagoda. It can add a cultural stop instead of another beach. Dress respectfully and follow on-site guidance; opening hours, steps and vehicle access were not verified.
Kbal Chhay: a conditions-dependent nature outing
A local hotel lists Kbal Chhay Waterfalls outside the central city area. Check current road and access conditions before arranging a trip. This is not permission to enter the water or a forecast of flow; in heavy rain, prefer an urban alternative.
Suggested day — not a race before a ferry
Editorial suggestion: a market or temple visit, a midday break and one beach in the afternoon. Choose the waterfalls instead of the urban portion, not as an automatic extra.
On a ferry day, keep sightseeing near your accommodation or confirmed port. Avoid a distant outing before a fixed check-in deadline.
Getting there and continuing to the islands
Royal Railway lists Sihanoukville on its southern line. Check a date-specific train and a station transfer.
Island Speed Ferry lists an Autonomous Port office; GTVC lists Tourism Pier. Do not infer an identical berth for every ticket. Confirm the map pin, check-in, island, bay and arrival pier with the ferry company, then the final transfer with your accommodation.
Weather and accessibility: known versus unverified
Island Speed Ferry’s terms allow weather, mechanical and safety delays or cancellations. Leave a buffer before flights; these terms do not establish whether a particular sailing will run.
No accessibility audit of pavements, markets, beaches or boats was conducted. For step-free travel, request a verified chain from vehicle to vessel seat, including the arrival pier and toilets.
QUICK ANSWERS
Frequently asked questions
Are Sihanoukville and Koh Rong the same destination?
No. Sihanoukville is a mainland destination and departure base; Koh Rong is an island. Staying in the city does not establish a ferry or island hotel transfer.
Should I schedule a ferry and flight on the same day?
Prefer a substantial buffer and a fallback plan. Operators may delay or cancel sailings; a guide’s crossing estimate is not a flight-connection guarantee.
